POLICE officials have revealed that four police officers have been killed in a recent gun attack in Imo State.

Two persons were also slain along Okpala Junction in the South-Eastern state’s Ngorokpala Local Government Area.

The Imo State Police Command confirmed the tragic death in a statement on Channels TV adding that it occurred earlier today.

According to Henry Okoye, the police’s public relations officer, the event happened while the Mbaise/Ngorokpala Area Command’s police unit was patrolling the neighborhood.

According to reports, they were ambushed and attacked by gunmen who also engaged the police unit.

In the process, two unarmed citizens died while four officers paid the ultimate price.

He added that the State Police Command is in control of the situation and that men from the tactical team of the command have been sent to the area for a thorough search with the goal of apprehending the offenders and holding them accountable.

The police official also urged everyone to remain calm.

In recent months, attacks by gunmen have occurred all across Imo.

A police inspector, Augustine Ukaegbu, was shot and killed by gunmen in Umuoshike Ogbor, in the state’s Aboh-Mbaise LGA, a few days ago.

Also following an ambush at the Obiangwu hamlet, Ngor-Okpala LGA in March, three officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) are feared dead.
