PARIS Saint-Germain have suspended Lionel Messi for two weeks without pay for travelling to Saudi Arabia without the club’s permission.

Reports have claimed that the Ligue 1 champions and leaders opened disciplinary proceedings against the Argentina captain today and the suspension will be officially confirmed soon.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner was involved in PSG’s shock 3-1 defeat at home to Lorient on Sunday.

The 35-year-old travelled to Saudi Arabia for business after the match but because it was a defeat, head coach Christophe Galtier cancelled the usual day off and Messi was adjudged to have disrespected the club.

Messi joined PSG from Barcelona in 2021, but he has struggled to replicate his incredible performances, scoring 31 goals in 69 appearances.

There have been reports that he will be leaving the French champions at the end of this season, and the fans have turned on him, booing as his name was announced before the kick-off of a recent 1-0 home defeat against Lyon.
