LIONEL Messi is back training with his Paris Saint-Germain colleagues after the club apparently pardoned him.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner had been fined and suspended by the French champions for travelling to Saudi Arabia without authorisation on Monday last week.
Reports had claimed that Messi had been suspended without pay and barred from training for two weeks, but the club confirmed today that he is back.
PSG today posted on their Twitter account a picture of the Argentina captain in training, with the caption: “Leo Messi back in training this Monday morning.”
Messi, who captained Argentina to the Qatar 2022 World Cup title and was named Player of the Tournament, had tendered a public apology to the club and his teammates last week following PSG’s action.
The 35-year-old explained that he travelled to Saudi Arabia for a previously cancelled engagement believing that the players had the day off as usual.
Apparently, PSG had cancelled the day off while Messi was already airborne, and he was not aware of the change, brought about because of a home defeat in Ligue 1 that weekend.
Messi was left out of the PSG squad for last night’s 3-1 win at Troyes, which took them six points clear at the top of Ligue 1.
