SUPER Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro and team captain Ahmed Musa are confident that they will get the required result against Sierra Leone to qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria will book their spot in their third consecutive AFCON if they avoid defeat to the Leone Stars tomorrow in Monrovia, Liberia in the qualifying Group A matchday 5 clash.

Peseiro’s side are second at the moment behind Guinea-Bissau but they will return to the top of the standings and secure qualification if they win or draw tomorrow.

“These guys give 100% to fight for us (I’m Portuguese but I now defend Nigeria), for our country, for our flag, for our life, for our family and for NFF,” Peseiro said of the team while addressing a gathering that included Nigeria Football Federation president Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau and his predecessor Amaju Pinnick during a dinner at Eko Hotel last night.

“Of course we need from you (Gusau) to give these guys maximum support. They are amazing guys; they do the maximum and don’t care about money or anything. They just fight for the country.

“I (and the players) only ask you to do the maximum for us and we’re going to fight to get the qualification.”

While addressing the gathering, long-serving forward Musa gave an assurance that the Super Eagles would win on Sunday.

“Thank you for the words of encouragement, Mr Chairman and former chairman. There’s nothing we can do than to win the game,” the Sivasspor forward said.

“We’re assuring you guys and Nigerians that we’re going there to win the game on Sunday, insha Allah.”

The Leone Stars are third in the group, four points adrift of Nigeria, and must win in their temporary home tomorrow in their neighbouring country to keep their dream alive.
