ANOTHER group of Nigerians from Sudan have arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

A Tarco Airline Boeing 737 with a total of 125 passengers, including 22 children, arrived from Port Sudan at 5 o’clock Nigerian time

Those in charge of receiving them included representatives from the National Management Emergency Agency (NEMA), the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM).

The evacuees’ passports and Emergency Travel Certificates (ETCs) were being used by agents of the Nigeria Immigration Service to process them into the nation as of the time of this report.

This is the first round of evacuees, since President Bola Tinubu assumed office on May 29.

The Federal Government on May 14, reported that 160 women who claimed to be Nigerians living in Sudan lacked passports that would allow them to return home.

NEMA’s director general, Mustapha Ahmed, said the organization was being cautious about evacuating anyone who was not a Nigerian.

Before the evacuation process began, the Nigerian Diaspora Commission estimated that there were roughly three million Nigerians living in Sudan as well as 5,000 students.

NEMA clarified that, aside from the 2,518 Nigerians who had already been evacuated and the 15 flights that were conducted, many of those claiming to be Nigerians could not have their citizenship verified.
