NPFL: Rivers United maintain win streak as Enyimba, Rangers, MFM, Plateau win

Rivers United claimed their third win in three games and stayed on top of the Nigeria Professional Football League table on Sunday with a 3-0 victory over Kwara United in Port Harcourt.

Also on Sunday, there were home wins for Enyimba, Katsina United, MFM FC, Plateau United and Lobi Stars, as well as away victories for Enugu Rangers and Dakkada FC.

Leaders Rivers United kept their 100 percent run going through first-half goals from Ifeanyi Anaemena and Godwin Aguda, and a 90th minute penalty from Chika Godwin.

In Aba, Enyimba got their second victory of the season with a tight 1-0 over Wikki Tourists. Nabil Yarou scored for the People’s Elephant in the 24th minute.

Dakkada stunned FC IfeanyiUbah away from home with Nnamdi Mejuobi’s 29th minute goal, while Israel Abia struck in the 79th minute for Rangers in their 1-0 win at Jigawa Golden Stars.

Katsina United eased to a 2-0 win over Adamawa United through a Rasheed Ahmed brace. Ahmed scored in the 42nd and 74th minutes.

Lobi Stars were ruthless at home against Warri Wolves, winning 3-0 with goals from Ossy Martin in the first minute, Mathias Samuel in the 64th minute and Chinonso Okonkwo in the 90th minute.

Plateau United continued their resurgence after a poor start and the slashing of players’ salaries with a 3-0 win over struggling Heartland. Muhammadu Zulkifilu, Amos Gyang and Jesse Akila were all on target against Fidelis Ikechukwu’s side who are yet to get a single point this season.

Nasarawa United came from behind to hold visitors Kano Pillars in the only draw of the matchday. Pillars took the lead in the 48th minute through substitute Nyima Neagua but  Adamu Hassan rescued a point for Nasarawa United with seven minutes left on the clock.
