THE NLC President, Joe Ajaero has stated that the Federal Government has dropped its contempt case against organized labor in light of last Wednesday’s widespread protest against the high cost of living.
In addition to being known as “Form 48,” the “notice of consequences of disobedience to order of court” was submitted last week to the National Industrial Court in Abuja.
The Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria were charged in the lawsuit of defying a ruling prohibiting the unions from engaging in industrial action.
Ajaero indicated that the National Executive Committee of the NLC had determined to pursue additional action in response to the Industrial Court and Ministry of Justice’s position through the Solicitor General of the Federation in an interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today.
“Then the NEC of the NLC rose up, giving up till 14th of August to withdraw such summons for contempt or face real industrial action,” he said.
“But equally, this afternoon, the Ministry of Justice through the Solicitor General of the Federation sent a letter to us withdrawing that charge.”
