ASISAT Oshoala paid a moving tribute to the late singer Mohbad last night after she scored twice in Barcelona’s 6-1 victory over Granada in the Spanish women’s top flight.
The Super Falcons of Nigeria striker netted in the 80th and 82nd minutes to seal off the champions’ big win and celebrated by revealing from underneath her jersey a T-shirt with the face of the Afrobeats star, who has big hits like ‘KPK’, ‘Feel Good’, ‘Ask About Me’ and Ronaldo in his rich discography.
The T-shirt is inscribed with the words ‘RIP Imole’.
Mohbad is also known as Imole (which means light in his Yoruba language) and often begins his songs by saying the word.
Mohbad, real name Ilerioluwa Aloba, died aged 27 under suspicious circumstances in Lagos on September 12, and his death is still being investigated.
The untimely demise of the young pop star and the subsequent quick burial the following day sparked widespread outrage across Nigeria and over the world, with aggrieved fans calling for justice.
After the match, Oshoala shared a post on Instagram with a photo of her celebrating her goals.
“Double for Imole. Keep resting, young king. #LightBoy,” she wrote.
Mohbad’s body was exhumed for an autopsy and a more befitting internment after his suspiciously hasty burial.
