THE Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah today, commissioned the 9th Mile 24/7 Water Scheme, which has a daily production capacity of 70,000 cubic meters.
During his governorship campaign, the governor promised citizens that he would provide water to every household in the state within 180 days of taking office, and that milestone was reached today.
Declaring the day ‘Enugu Water Day,’ Mbah stated that preparations were in the works to commission new pumps in the Oji Water Scheme to increase daily production by 50,000 cubic metres, for a total daily supply of 120,000 cubic metres.
The 9th Mile facility is said to have come into existence 41 years ago and stopped functioning 20 years ago. The revival and upgrade of the facility, it is widely believed, would go a long way in tackling the bedevilling water-related issues in the state.
Mbah noted that his government had planned the Oji Water Scheme, which has a daily capacity of 50,000 cubic meters.
The governor also visited some businesses and residences that were not readily piped, despite the fact that the state government provided a water gallery to verify that the taps were turned on. He assured that locations such as these would be piped in the following days.
