THE head coach of England’s women’s national team Sarina Wiegman has revealed that her favourite song currently is one in Nigerian Afrobeats star Burna Boy’s 2022 studio album ‘Love, Damini’.
Wiegman was asked for her most played song for the year and her response, ahead of the UEFA Nations League clash between England and her native Netherlands, surprised everyone.
“My most played song? I don’t know the name of the song, but Burna Boy and Ed Sheeran. I have definitely played that song the most,” the 54-year-old told Sky Sports.
“I didn’t expect this so I don’t know the name of the song, but it is the song with Burna Boy and Ed Sheeran. I definitely played that song the most.”
Wiegman was referring to the smash hit ‘For My Hand’, a collaboration between Burna Boy and English superstar Ed Sheeran, a romantic song with a catchy melody in which promises of everlasting love are made.
‘For My Hand’ is listed as the seventh song in Burna Boy’s sixth studio album ‘Love, Damini,’ and it has over 160 million streams on Spotify.
Streaming giant Spotify is currently running a campaign dubbed ‘Spotify Wrapped,’ where users get to know the songs or artists they listened to most in 2023.
Wiegman is one of the most successful coaches in women’s football, having led the Netherlands to the Women’s Euros title in 2017 and the FIFA Women’s World Cup final two years later.
She repeated the feat with England, winning the Euros with them in 2022 and
steering them past Nigeria’s Super Falcons to the Women’s World Cup final this year, where they lost to Spain.
