THE Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has provided support for the injured and traumatised players and officials of Nigeria Premier Football League club, Sunshine Stars of Akure, who were attacked by armed robbers on Thursday.
A ball boy was shot and players and other officials were adversely affected after the team bus was attacked by armed robbers on the Ore-Benin Highway as the team headed to Benin City for an NPFL fixture against Bendel Insurance.
Governor Obaseki immediately dispatched aides to the hospital where the ball boy was taken for treatment, alongside the other members of the Sunshine Stars.
Now, Obaseki has offered to foot the bill for the medical treatment of all those involved in the unfortunate incident.
“We thank the Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki, for this kind gesture. It is a commendable move which nobility cannot be overemphasised,” Nigeria Football Federation Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau said
“We appreciate him immensely, as we pray for quick recovery for the injured ball boy and the traumatised players and other officials.”
