2023 AFCON: Super Eagles, others submit provisional squads

THE Super Eagles of Nigeria and the other 23 teams taking part in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire have all submitted their provisional squads for the tournament, the Confederation of African Football has confirmed.

The tournament will be held in five Ivorian cities from January 13 to February 11 next year.

CAF confirmed tonight that all the 24 qualified teams have beaten the deadline of December 14 to submit their provisional lists of no more than 55 players.

Meanwhile, the Organising Committee of the AFCON has announced that the final squads for the 2023 tournament will comprise of 27 players, up from the initial 23 from previous events.

The registration of the four additional players in the final squad is only an option and not an obligation, CAF explained.

The deadline for the submission of the final squads for the tournament is January 3, 2023, 10 days to the opening match of the tournament between Cote d’Ivoire and Guinea-Bissau in Abidjan.

However, only 23 players will be allowed in the matchday squad for each fixture during the tournament.

CAF added that in a player in the final squad can only be replaced after a serious injury no less than 24 hours before the team’s first match following the approval of the medical certificate by the Medical Committee.

The five Ivorian cities to host matches are Abidjan, Bouake, Korhogo, San Pedro and Yamoussoukro.
