KANO: Govt records 800 Covid-19 cases, 17 deaths in two months

THE Deputy Coordinator, Kano State Response Task Force on Covid-19, Dr Sabitu Shanono has said 17 persons have lost their lives to the second wave of Covid-19  since its incursion into the country about two months ago.

Dr. Shanono made the disclosure at a meeting with Emirs of Kano, Bichi, Karaye and Rano on Wednesday.

“In January 2021 alone, six persons have died as a result of COVID-19 pandemic in the state,” he said.

He disclosed that from December 2020 to January 2021, no fewer than 800 persons were infected.

According to him, a total of 289 COVID-19 patients are currently receiving medication at various isolation centres in the state.

“We have 5,000 suspected coronavirus victims on our tracking devices and we are keenly watching their movements,” he said.

In his remarks, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji  Aminu Ado Bayero assured the government of full cooperation of the emirate councils in the fight against the pandemic.

In a similar vein, the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Kano State on Wednesday warned the government against slashing workers salaries following the directive for them to stay at home.

The state NLC boss, Ado Minjibir, said, “We believe that this directive of stay at home will not tamper with the salaries and pension of our workers. So, we will wait and see the outcome of the payment of salaries for the months of January, then we will know the next line of action.’’
