Actress Funke Akindele’s latest film A Tribe Called Judah has become the first Nollywood film to reach the N1 billion mark.
Film One Studios confirmed this in a statement released today.
Kene Okwuosa, CEO of Film House Group, spoke about the milestone achievement saying, “We are witnessing a golden era for Nigerian cinema, and Funke Akindele’s A Tribe Called Judah reaching the 1 billion Naira mark is an indication that the creative industry.”
A Tribe Called Judah hit the cinemas on December 15, after its premiere at the Imax Cinemas on December 10.
The film has also beaten Funke’s previous movies Omo Ghetto: The Saga and Battle on Buka Street to become the actress’ biggest opening film and also the number one overall film in Nigeria and West Africa.
Directed by Adeoluwa Owu and Funke, the film tells the story of a family of boys, who decide to rob a mall to raise money for their mother’s hospital bill. However, on getting there, they are faced with armed robbers.
