THE Imo State Police Command has announced today that its agents had rescued the immediate past chairman of the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, Samuel Ohiri, from kidnappers.
Some unknown gunmen had on Saturday, January 6, kidnapped Ohiri from his home in the state’s Orodo Mbaitoli Local Government Area and took him away.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, also confirmed that the command instantly swung into action after receiving a direction from the state Commissioner of Police, Danjuma Aboki.
“Yes, he has been released. Immediately he was kidnapped, the Commissioner of Police directed the command’s Special Tactical teams, in synergy with the military and other security agencies, and hunt down the hoodlums responsible for the dastardly act, which they did swung into action.”
“And God so kind, we were able to arrest one of the kidnappers,” he said.
He noted that security personnel were able to ensure the monarch’s release after the kidnapping syndicate was forced to do so owing to intense pressure.
Okoye stated that efforts are underway to apprehend other members of the group.
Ohiri is the traditional ruler of Orodo and served as council chairman during the government of former Governor Rochas Okorocha.
