Zidane tests positive for COVID-19

REAL Madrid have announced that their manager Zinedine Zidane has contracted COVID-19.

The Spanish giants revealed on Friday that the Frenchman tested positive for the virus.

“Real Madrid C. F. report that our coach Zinedine Zidane has tested positive for COVID-19,” the club announced on their official website.

The Spanish giants did not provide further details but going by coronavirus protocols, Zidane will have to go into self-isolation for several days and miss at least two Madrid fixtures.

The LaLiga champions are still reeling from their shock exit from the Copa Del Rey at the hands of lower-league opposition.

Zidane’s side were knocked out of the cup competition by Alcoyano on Wednesday, who won 2-1 in extra-time despite going down to 10 men.

Real Madrid are winless in their last three matches, including a 2-1 defeat to Athletic Bilbao in the semi-final of the Spanish Super Cup last week.

The 13-time European champions next play Alaves in LaLiga on Saturday, before facing Levante a week later.

Zidane could be back for the LaLiga trip to Huesca on 6 February.
