Lagos PDP chairman released after four days in kidnappers’ den

THE Ogun State police command has confirmed that the release of Philip Aivoj, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman in Lagos State, after he had spent four days in captivity.

According to a police spokesperson in the state command, Omolola Odutola, the PDP leader was freed in the early hours of this morning, although she was unable to provide specific details about his release.

Aivoj and several other party officials were kidnapped last Thursday by gunmen on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Ogere.

They had been returning from a party meeting convened by the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, in Ibadan.

An attempted rescue on Friday resulted in the death of one of the captives, 37-year-old Bilikisu Kazeem, during a gun battle with the kidnappers.
