TAIWO Awoniyi is excited to be back in action playing for Nottingham Forest against Arsenal last night after a long lay-off.

The Nigeria international marked his return with a goal as Nottingham Forest were beaten 2-1 by Arsenal in the English Premier League clash at the City Ground.

Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka scored Arsenal’s goals in the second half before Awoniyi, who came on at the restart to replace Chris Wood, pulled one back for Forest with one minute of normal time left.

“Isaiah 43v7: for I have created him for my glory,” Awoniyi wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, today, quoting the Bible.

“Disappointing result, but feel good to be back at it again.”

Awoniyi had been out since November after sustaining a groin injury and undergoing surgery.

He missed 12 Forest fixtures as a result of the injury and was left out of the Super Eagles of Nigeria squad to the 2023 AFCON Africa Cup of Nations, where they have reached the quarter-finals.

Awoniyi, 26, has registered five goals and two assists in 11 Premier League appearances this season.
