NIGERIAN athletes Tobi Amusan and Favour Ofili were in inspirational form last night as both set new continental indoor records in the 60m hurdles and 300m.

World record holder in the outdoor women’s 100m hurdles Amusan continued her impressive start to the year by improving the 60m African record she set last week.

The 26-year-old broke her new record at the NB Indoor Grand Prix in Boston, United States of America, clocking 7.75 seconds to finish second in the race.

The time is an improvement on the 7.77s she set as the new 60m hurdles African record just last week at the Indoor Tour event in Astana, Kazakhstan, where she had broken Glory Alozie’s 25-year-old mark of 7.82s.

USA’s Tia Jones won the Boston race in 7.72s, while Devynne Charlton was third in 7.76s.

On her part, Ofili broke the Nigerian and African record in the rarely run women’s 300m, also at the NB Indoor Grand Prix in Boston, clocking 35.99s.

The 21-year-old became the 10th fastest woman ever over the distance as she finished behind USA’s Gabby Thomas, who won in 35.75s.

Nigeria’s Ese Brume and Ruth Usoro also competed in the women’s long jump at the NB Indoor Grand Prix, with the former
finishing third with a leap of 6.58m.

Usoro, whose best attempt was 6.46m, came fourth as Tara Davis-Woodhall of USA won the event with a world lead leap of 6.86m.
