FORMER Super Eagles of Nigeria goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama has announced the death of his father Phillip Enyeama.

Enyeama took to social media yesterday to announce the death of his father, posting a video of them playing table tennis together and paying emotional tribute.

“To God be the glory for a life well spent. You were the reason a lot of people achieved what they achieved,” Enyeama, who was the on-field captain as the Super Eagles won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, wrote on the Instagram post.

“You were selfless and generous. You stood in for many, you fought for many to achieve their dreams.

“I am proud to have been fathered by you. It’s a series. Your number was called. Farewell. God rest your soul in peace.”

Phillip was a football coach for decades and was instrumental in Vincent taking up the career in which he excelled.

The 41-year-old Vincent Enyeama, who starred for Enyimba and Lille among other clubs, is one of only three players with 100 or more caps for Nigeria, and he is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers to ever play for the country.

Phillip was the superstar’s second parent to pass away, after his mother died in 2015.
