POPE Francis has raised concerns about the rising number of kidnappings in Nigeria, calling them “concerning”.
He also noted that he hoped that measures to contain the threat bear fruit “as much as possible”.
“The increasingly frequent kidnappings in Nigeria are extremely concerning. I express my closeness in prayer to the Nigerian people, hoping that efforts will be made to contain the spread of these incidents as much as possible,” he wrote on his X account yesterday.
His statement comes in the wake of an increase in kidnapping cases in various parts of Nigeria.
Abductors have laid siege to several parts of the country, kidnapping people and demanding ransoms.
The abductors have also killed some others, forcing Nigerian police to initiate a crackdown on the offenders.
