SEVEN players, including Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund and Manchester City’s Phil Foden, have been shortlisted for the English Premier League Player of the Month award for February.
The other nominees are Joao Gomes of Wolves, Pascal Gross of Brighton, Rodrigo Muniz of Fulham and Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa.
Saka, who has Nigerian heritage but plays international football for England, was the Premier League’s top scorer in February, netting six times for the only team with a 100 per cent winning record during the month as the Gunners beat leaders Liverpool, West Ham United, Burnley and Newcastle United.
On his part, Hojlund was directly involved in six February goals, which is a joint-high. He scored in all four of his appearances, extending his overall Premier League scoring streak to six matches, the youngest player in history to achieve this.
He was not involved in the only match Manchester United lost in February, last weekend’s 2-1 home defeat to Fulham.
Foden was also in red-hot form in February, playing every minute as Manchester City went unbeaten in five matches, winning four. He scored a hat-trick at Brentford and got the winning goal away to Bournemouth.
The other nominees were also impressive in February, Watkins registering four goals and two assists as Villa won three of their four games, and Muniz scoring four goals in four Fulham fixtures.
To decide the winner of the award, the public votes will be combined with those of a panel of football experts.
The winner will be revealed next week.
