THE Chief Commander of Kano Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, has stepped down from his position.
In a brief video posted on his official Facebook page today, the leader of the Kano Shari’a police announced his resignation.
Daurawa’s decision to resign came shortly after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf criticized the new approach adopted by Hisbah in addressing acts of immorality in the state.
During a meeting with religious scholars at the Government House yesterday, Governor Yusuf specifically objected to the practice of raiding public places under the guise of apprehending prostitutes, which he deemed uncivilized.
Governor Yusuf also expressed disapproval of Hisbah’s methods of apprehending suspects, emphasizing the need for the board to reassess its current operations to address societal issues.
In response to Governor Yusuf’s remarks, Daurawa clarified that during his tenure, the Hisbah board had undertaken various initiatives to address moral misconduct in society, particularly by social media influencers.
Sheikh Daurawa stated that Hisbah had acted in accordance with Islamic principles and what he believed to be right.
Nevertheless, he announced his resignation from his position, extending well wishes to the governor and his administration.
