NIGERIA’S only representatives left in continental competitions, Rivers United, have progressed to the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Pride of Rivers came from behind in Uyo to beat Ghana’s Dreams FC 2-1 to claim one of the two knockout tickets in Group C.
The visitors stunned Rivers United by taking the lead in the first half and held on to the advantage into the break.
Rivers United had to win and needed the result elsewhere to favour them if they were to advance, and they got both.
The Nigeria Premier Football League side drew level just past the hour mark through Deputy Echeta but were still on the verge of elimination until Kazie Eyinnaya scored the winner with virtually the last kick of the game deep into stoppage time.
With Club Africain drawing 1-1 with Academica do Lobito in Tunisia, everything fell into place for Rivers United and they squeezed through to the quarter-finals.
Dreams FC finished on top of the group with 12 points, ahead of Rivers United on goal difference, while Club Africain are third with 10 points and Academica do Lobito bottom with just one point.
