TROOPS from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army have neutralized 5 violent extremists, foiled kidnapping attempts, and recovered a big cache of weaponry and ammunition in a major operation aimed at maintaining peace and security in Taraba State.

While acting on actionable intelligence about the extremists’ plan to kidnap several church members returning from a church programme in Wukari along the Tor-Tse and Takum roads, the forces acted decisively.

Troops of the 93 Battalion deployed in Wukari quickly swung into action and skillfully lied in wait for the violent extremists and insurgents in the early hours of yesterday.

The troops made contact with the extremists and engaged in tactical battle, which resulted in the neutralization of four extremists and the recovery of two AK 47 rifles, one pump action rifle, and two AK 47 magazines.

Similarly, on March 27, 2024, troops patrolled the Chanchanji Ward of Takum Local Government Area and came into contact with suspected violent extremists.

Troops replied with superior firepower, neutralising one extremist and recovering one locally made FN pistol, two rounds of 9MM ammo, and a mobile phone belonging to the criminal.

According to the army, this successful operation displays 6 Brigade’s continuous dedication to preserving citizens’ lives and property while also making the state and its surrounds a safer place for businesses to operate.

The military urged the people to continue helping its forces by giving timely and trustworthy information on any suspicious movements or criminal activity within the state.
