WILFRED Ndidi scored a crucial goal today as Leicester City returned to the top of the English Championship table in their promotion bid to the Premier League.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria midfielder netted the opening goal while veteran striker Jamie Vardy struck the second goal as Leicester City beat West Brom 2-1 at the King Power Stadium.
Ndidi pounced on a rebound to score from close range in the 22nd minute to give Leicester City the breakthrough that led to their first win in three games and strengthened their charge for a quick return to the Premier League.
Vardy, who missed an earlier penalty, doubled Leicester City’s lead in the 65th minute, while Jed Wallace pulled one back for West Brom, who had Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi on the bench.
Ndidi has taken his Championship tally this season to three goals and five assists in 29 appearances from midfield for Leicester City, who are now two points clear at the top of the table with three rounds of matches to the end of the campaign.
Ndidi’s fellow Nigeria international at Leicester City, Kelechi Iheanacho, was not in the matchday squad, apparently due to a knock.
Despite the defeat, West Brom are still in contention for a spot in the promotion play-offs.
They are fifth, seven points clear of seventh-placed Hull City, with the teams in third to sixth places due to battle for an additional promotion spot.
