FLYING Eagles of Nigeria defender Benjamin Fredrick has signed a professional deal with English Premier League club Brentford.
The 18-year-old shone for Nigeria at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in May 2023 as they reached the quarter-finals and has since been with Brentford on loan, playing for their junior sides.
The club announced late last night that Fredrick has now penned a long-term professional deal.
“Brentford is pleased to announce the permanent signing of Benjamin Fredrick from Simoiben FC on a four-year deal with the club having the option of an extra year,” the club stated on their official website.
“The central defender has impressed on loan this season and his efforts have been rewarded with a permanent move to west London.
“The central defender will remain with Neil MacFarlane’s B team, however he has shown great endeavour this term and trained with the first team on a number of occasions.
“He was also named as a substitute for Brentford’s Premier League games against Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, as well as both Emirates FA Cup third-round matches against Wolverhampton Wanderers.”
Fredrick said he was excited to be joining Brentford on a permanent basis.
“Signing permanently for Brentford is a great moment for me and my family and I want to thank everyone who started this journey with me,” he told the club’s website.
“Neil and the rest of the coaching team have been very patient and supportive throughout this season and they have helped me become a stronger more confident player in the process.
“I want to repay the club’s trust in me by continuing to do my best and pushing to even greater heights.”
Simoiben FC, based in Kaduna, also confirmed the deal, stating: “We are proud to announce that our academy graduate Benjamin Fredrick has signed a permanent deal for EPL Club Brentford.
“We are very happy for you and look forward to following your continued success on the biggest stage. ONE OF OUR OWN.”
