KASTINA: Security operatives rescue 17 kidnapped passengers

A combined security force has rescued 17 abducted passengers, the majority of them are male, from the clutches of violent extremists in Katsina State’s Solar General Area of Batsari LGA.

According to a military source, the success follows a distress call received around midday on May 11, 2024.

He stated that the Nigerian Army Team 9 Troops, in partnership with the Katsina Police Command, State Community Watch Corps, Special Hunters, and indigenous hunters from Batsari, were promptly mobilized and sent to the scene.

Upon arrival, the joint security forces engaged the violent radicals in a gunfire, forcing them to abandon the abductees and retreat into the neighbouring bush.

According to a military source, all of the abducted passengers were safely rescued and released to officials from the Batsari Local Government Area.

In a statement issued today, the Chief Press Secretary to the Katsina Governor, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, emphasized that military are still actively stationed in the general area of Katsina State to deter future criminal activity and ensure citizens’ safety.
