Today, October 1, 2021, marks 61 years since Nigeria got her independence from British colonial rule in 1960.

This year like every other, Nigerians home and Diaspora will proudly celebrate the 61st-anniversary of their country’s independence, but with mixed feelings, as we are yet to achieve this dream of oneness, a state of tranquillity and togetherness.

Lagos Post reached out to some notable Nigerian celebrities to express their expectations from the Nigeria of their dreams as we approach another Independence day.
Excerpts;

‘I wish my country divine healing’ – Chioma Ifemeludike

Nigeria at 61, I wish my country healing, total healing. Political healing, economic healing, social healing, healing at every area and facet of the society.

There’s so much going on, so many deaths, and I just wish all that disappears even though I know that would be wishful thinking, but I believe that if we start doing the right things; if we start putting the right leaders if the citizens start becoming interested again and committed, things will get much better.

So, I just wish my country healing because, at this point, that’s what it needs, healing. The country is very sick, and it needs divine healing.

‘I want to change things myself’ – Yul Edochie.

I don’t know what to say about Nigeria that has not been saying, and nothing is changing. I no dey talk again.

I’m just focused on running for President so I can change things myself.

We have waited for too long for the same set of people to fix our country. It still hasn’t happened. We will not run away from our country.

We can join hands and fix it ourselves. It looks impossible, but we can do it, and we will. Remember, what you focus on grows. So let’s focus on it. Please let everybody join us ahead of 2023.

‘I expect actual democracy’ – Alex Unusual.

Let me just be professional because if I’m to be truthful, I’m tired of this country.
I expect actual democracy. I hope a reshuffle of the leaders which seems impossible.

My expectation is for Nigeria to live up to her name as the giant of Africa. Nigeria has always been referred to as African Giant, and we are yet to see that.

I really hope to see that happen someday. My dream country would be one that would someday overcome corruption and other vices.

‘We are slowly getting there’ – JJC Skillz.

I believe in a brighter and better Nigeria. ‘See Us Now’, my song featuring Kate Henshaw, says it all. We are slowly living up to my predictions, a better place for us all.

‘I dream of a country devoid of innocent bloodshed’ – Ruth Eze

I dream of a united, stable and peaceful country. No more killings, bloodshed. Presently, there are lots of bad news out there, and it has become an everyday occurrence.

I dream of Nigeria, where the politicians and other public officials are not the richest among us.

I dream of a Nigeria where ethnic and religious groups would embrace each other in peace and love. At the moment, only God can help us, but we can’t give up on hoping for a better Nigeria someday.
