The bill to establish the Tertiary Hospital Development Fund has been passed by the Senate. The bill was passed after the Senate on Tuesday considered and adopted a report from the Committee on Health (Secondary and Tertiary).

Sen. Yahaya Oloriegbe (APC-Kwara), chairman of the committee, stated in his presentation that the bill is aimed to establish the Tertiary Hospitals Development Fund for the rehabilitation, restoration, and consolidation of Nigeria’s tertiary healthcare system.

He went on to say that the law also intended to form a governing board for the fund, which would include a chairman and other members.

The fund, he claims, will build and sustain infrastructure for tertiary healthcare service delivery, health research, and staff training and development throughout the country.

“The law proposes how the funds will be sourced, so relieving the Federal Government of the responsibility of financing,” Oloriegbe explained.
