RIVERS: I’m just ‘chief logistics officer’ of my state, not in charge of security – Wike

GOVERNOR Nyesom Wike has said it is a misnomer for anybody to address him as the Chief Security Officer of his state.

Wike said he was not in control of his state as far as security is concerned.

The governor said this while featuring on Channel Television’s Sunday Politics.

He noted that the Federal government is not sincere about the fight against insurgency and insecurity generally adding that the government should have agreed to state policing if it really wants to end insecurity.

He said, “First, you have to ask yourself, is the Federal Government sincere? Are they serious about making sure that there is security in all the states? If you ask me I would say No.

“We must understand when people play about politics. The Federal Government is not sincere about security. What I am saying today is not new but again, one has to speak up to say this is not the way the country must move.”

The governor stressed that calling him the chief security officer of his state is a just a mere deception, adding that he is just a chief logistics officer.

Wike said, “Let me correct one impression. They say I’m chief security officer. No, I’m not a chief security officer of the state.To the best of my knowledge no governor is.It doesn’t matter what they claim they are. Okay, maybe, APC governors are chief security officers of their states. But the truth is no governor can claim authoritatively that they are chief security officers.

” They may say so but I won’t say so. I’m not; I’m only a chief logistics officer of the state. When the issues of logistics are being discussed I’m in control. But what else do I know. I’m not in control of the security of my state.”
