ACE storyteller, content creator and filmmaker, Femi Odugbemi has been appointed to serve on the ‘International Engagement Committee’ of the International Engagement Committee of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Announced by the Academy via a letter sent to him on September 7, 2024, the appointment is a bold recognition of Odugbemi’s contribution to African film eco-system both as a professional in producing and directing, and as well as a scholar, who regularly thinks and speaks for the integrity and prospects of African storytelling through the film and media.
The International Engagement Committee plays a crucial role in shaping the Academy’s global strategy, focusing on membership, governance and impact programmes.
Odugbemi’s one-year term, ending June 30, 2025, will see him collaborating with international professionals to enhance the Academy’s worldwide inclusivity and influence.
In a post on his personal social media page, Odugbemi, Nigeria’s preeminent documentary filmmaker, stated:

“I am honoured to join the Academy’s International Engagement Committee and excited to contribute to its efforts in promoting global representation.”
The committee will convene virtually three times over the next year, accommodating members across various time zones.
