SUPER Eagles striker Victor Boniface scored his first-ever UEFA Chmapions League goal last night as Bayer Leverkusen defeated Samuel Chukwueze’s AC Milan at the BayArena.
In only Boniface’s second appearance in the competition, he netted the only goal of the tight contest six minutes into the second half to inspire Leverkusen to a second straight win.
Chukwueze was a second-half substitute as Milan suffered their second consecutive defeat in the Champions League, the Nigeria winger replacing Christian Pulisic in the 79th minute.
In Dortmund, Germany forward with Nigerian heritage Karim Adeyemi hogged the highlights at the Signal Iduna Park, scoring thrice as Borussia Dortmund thrashed Scottish champions Celtic 7-1.
Adeyemi, 22, completed his hat-trick in the 11th, 29th and 42nd minutes to become the first Germany player to score 10 Champions League goals before the age of 23.
Emery Can opened the scoring for last season’s finalists from the spot after seven minutes and Guinea striker Serhou Guirassy converted the German side’s second penalty in the 40th minute.
Guirassy scored again in the 66th minute, before Felix Nmecha added the seventh in the 79th minute.
In England, Arsenal continued their bright start to the season with a clinical 2-0 win over French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Kai Havertz, who was named the man of the match, put the Gunners in front in the 20th minute before Bukayo Saka sealed the win 15 minutes later.
In Slovakia, Manchester City proved their superiority over Slovan Bratislava with a4-0 win, with Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden, Erling Haaland and James McAtee scoring the goals.
Inter Milan recorded their first win of the competition this season with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Red Star Belgrade at home.
Hakan Calhanoglu, Marko Anarutovic, Lautaro Martinez and Mehdi Taremi struck for the Italian champions as they thrashed the Serbians, who had Super Eagles forward Peter Olayinka on for 90 minutes.
In Spain, Barcelona disciplined Young Boys 5-0, with Robert Lewandowski bagging a brace, and Raphinha and Inigo Martinez adding two more goals in a dominant first half. A Mohamed Ali Camara own goal sealed the emphatic win for the Catalans.
In the Netherlands, hosts PSV Eindhoven and Sporting Lisbon shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Jerdy Schouten put the Eredivisie side in the lead after 15 minutes but Daniel Braganca ensured his side secured a point on the road with a strike seven minutes from time.
Stuttgart and Sparta Prague played a 1-1 draw in Germany. Enzo Millot scored the opener for the home side before Kasper Kairinen drew the visitors level.
The Czech Republic side had Nigerian forward Victor Olatunji on as a substitute for the final 20 minutes.
French first-timers Brest recorded the result of the night, beating Salzburg 4-0 in Austria to secure their second win in two matches.
