TWO eminent and frontline Nigerian filmmakers, Kunle Afolayan and Bolanle Austen-Peters are currently participating in the African Creative TV Initiative (ACTV), holding in various cities in the United States.

ACTV, is a “groundbreaking program aimed at equipping African TV creators with the skills and tools needed to compete globally,” stated Afolayan, renowned as one of the very best practitioners in the Nigerian and African filmic space.

Bolanle Austen-Peters… her film, Funmilayo Ransome Kuti is also screening on October 10 at the Harvard Law School, Harvard Cambridge, as part of the Africa Alive! 2024 programme of the  Harvard African Alumni Conference, October11-13.

The front-runner Nigerian storytellers will visit centres and institutions in Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Virginia, and Atlanta. to participate in the prestigious initiative designed to enhance the quality and authenticity of African storytelling in television.

Also participating in the tour are leading Kenyan filmmakers, who will be sharing their work as well as discussing the role of African cinema in the global creative economy.

Afolayan, whose professional signature includes critically acclaimed Figurine, October 1, Phone Swap, Anikulapo, and others, expressed his enthusiasm for being part of this leadership initiative, highlighting how this opportunity allows African storytellers to elevate their narratives and showcase the continent’s rich cultures to a global audience.

As reported in the KAPHub News, an online industry publication founded by the multi-skilled Afolayan:

“Spearheaded by the USC School of Cinematic Arts through the American Film Showcase (AFS) and in partnership with the U.S. Department of State, the program focuses on fostering leadership and creative excellence across Africa’s TV industry.

“This opportunity will enable participants to strengthen connections with global networks and open doors for future collaborations.
