THE Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced that troops conducting internal security operations across the country killed 82 terrorists and arrested 198 criminals within the past week.

In a statement released yesterday, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj-Gen Markus Kangye, revealed that troops also rescued 93 kidnapped victims and recovered 86 high-caliber weapons along with 2,040 rounds of ammunition from various theatres of operation.

According to Kangye, 41 terrorists—10 men, 12 women, and 19 children—surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai in the North East.

In the Niger Delta region, troops cracked down on illegal oil activities, seizing crude oil and other petroleum products valued at over N500 million. The operation led to the confiscation of 366,530 litres of stolen crude oil, 117,320 litres of illegally refined diesel, and 600 litres of kerosene.

“Additionally, troops discovered and destroyed 38 crude oil cooking ovens, 27 dugout pits, 22 boats, three speedboats, 60 storage tanks, 34 drums, and 32 illegal refining sites,” Kangye stated.

Security forces also arrested 22 oil thieves and recovered 152 assorted weapons and ammunition, including five magazines.

Giving further details on seized arms, Kangye reported that troops confiscated 46 AK-47 rifles, 18 locally fabricated guns, 19 Dane guns, and three pump-action shotguns.

Recovered ammunition included 1,165 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 128 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 600 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, and 51 cartridges.

The DHQ reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining security and urged citizens to support the military’s ongoing operations against criminal elements nationwide.
