Chelle names provisional Super Eagles squad for Rwanda, Zimbabwe clashes, recalls Musa

SUPER EAGLES of Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has named a big provisional squad of 39 players for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe this month.

The squad includes goalkeepers Stanley Nwabali and Adeleye Adebayo, defenders William Troost-Ekong, Calvin Bassey and Ola Aina, midfielders Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi, and forwards Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen and Simon Moses.

Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, who has not featured for Udinese in weeks and faces a betting breach investigation in Italy, as well as defenders Bruno Onyemaechi and Zaidu Sanusi, midfielders Frank Onyeka and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, and forwards Samuel Chukwueze and Sadiq Umar are also included in the squad.

Defenders Igoh Ogbu and Ifeanyi Onyebuchi, midfielders Anthony Dennis, Chrisantus Uche and Papa Daniel Mustapha, and forwards Tolu Arokodare and Jerome Akor Adams are included in a Super Eagles squad for the first time ever.

Home-based goalkeeper Kayode Bankole, defender Jordan Torunarigha, midfielder Joe Aribo and forwards Cyriel Dessers and Nathan Tella are also in contention for the final list of 23.

Nigeria face an uphill task to qualify for the World Cup, with the three-time African champions fifth in Group C behind Rwanda, South Africa, Benin Republic and Lesotho.

The Super Eagles are guests of leaders Amavubi of Rwanda in Kigali on March 21 before hosting Zimbabwe’s Warriors at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo four days later.
