MOSES Simon has emerged as a major doubt for the Super Eagles ahead of this month’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixtures due to a persistent ankle injury.

The Super Eagles will seek to get their qualifying campaign back on track when they face Group C leaders Rwanda in Kigali next Friday and bottom team Zimbabwe in Uyo four days later.

The Super Eagles are fifth in the six-team group and cannot afford to drop any more points, with Simon one of the squad’s most important players.

The Nantes winger was included in new head coach Eric Chelle’s 23-man squad for the two key, must-win fixtures.

However, according to Nantes head coach Antoine Kombouare, Simon’s ankle is a cause for concern.

“He (Simon) hasn’t trained all week,” Kombouaré was quoted by Ouest France on Thursday.

“He stayed in the gym Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, but he completed the session today.

“His ankle is still hurting. There’s obviously some concern. We’re managing it, but for him, it’s complicated.”

This would be worrying news for Chelle’s coaching crew, who also lost Bayer Leverkusen forward Nathan Tella as a result of injury.

Simon has been impressive for Nantes this season, the 29-year-old Nigeria international recording six goals and seven assists in 23 Ligue 1 matches.
