NDSF: Delta, Bayelsa, Edo sweep gold medals in swimming

Delta, Bayelsa and Edo have dominated the swimming event at the Niger Delta Sports Festival (NDSF) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The three states won multiple medals on Day 2 yesterday at the Uyo Township Stadium, with Delta holding on to top spot in the event with eight gold and a total of 16 medals.

Delta secured four gold medals yesterday, with Bayelsa and Edo claiming two gold medals each.

Both Delta and Bayelsa states split the top prizes in the last two competitions of day two – the relays – with the former winning the 4x100m men’s medley relay while the latter won the 4x100m mixed freestyle relay.

With one day of competition left in swimming, Delta is clearly on top with eight gold, six silver and two bronze medals, with Bayelsa not far behind with six gold, four silver and three gold medals.

Edo State is third with two gold, seven silver and four bronze medals.

Delta’s Chukwunalu Olise was the star athlete on Friday with two gold medals, with Bayelsa’s Alfred Gesikeme also impressive.

Imo State is fourth in the swimming medal table with two gold and one bronze medal, while Rivers is fifth with one gold, one silver and three bronze medals.
