POPULAR social media activist, Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), his lawyer Deji Adeyanju confirmed via a phone call.

VDM was arrested last Friday by EFCC operatives at a Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) branch in Abuja.

His arrest quickly drew public attention, sparking widespread reactions across social media platforms.

Influential figures, including 2023 PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and music star Davido, publicly demanded his immediate release.

On Monday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale acknowledged the agency’s role in VDM’s arrest and revealed that the action was based on multiple petitions filed against him.

Oyewale explained that VDM was detained to respond to these allegations and would be released upon meeting bail conditions.

He also emphasized the EFCC’s duty to protect the identities of the petitioners and stated that legal proceedings would follow shortly.

In response to the arrest, a group of youths staged a protest in Abuja on Monday morning. Holding placards, they denounced the detention as illegal and called for justice.
