THE state government has said it has marked over 1000 schools, both primary and post-primary, for shutdown.
This was disclosed by the state Commissioner of Education, Prof. Dennis Ityavya on Saturday.
Ityavya, who decried the proliferation of illegal schools in the state, said officials of the ministry alongside security operatives, would move round the state to shut down the illegal schools.
The decision became necessary following the announcement by the West African Examination Council that it has delisted 30 schools in the state over examination malpractices.
Confirming the development, Ityavya, said, “Let me inform the public that WAEC has delisted 30 schools in the state and most of them are private schools. Some of them had their results withdrawn by the examination body for examination malpractices.”
The decision to shutdown 1000 schools by the Benue State government is coming three years after it closed about 2,300 illegal primary and post-primary schools.
