KADUNA: Troops foil attack by bandits on another school in Rigachikun

THE Nigerian army has said it foiled another attempt by bandits to abduct some students of Turkish International Secondary School located at the Rigachikun axis of the state. 

This, according to the army, happened hours after the abduction at the Federal School of Forestry Mechanisation in Mando area of the Kaduna city.

According to a statement issued yesterday by the army spokesman, Mohammed Yerima, troops of the quick response force of division 1 responded to another distress call that bandits had stormed the Federal School of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Igabi LGA. 

The troops were alerted to protect the school, following a tip-off of a planned attack by bandits.

He said the troops responded to the call by swiftly moving to protect the school from bandits, who had gained access by breaking through the perimeter fence. 

The army spokesperson said the rescued students have been evacuated to a safe place, while the injured are presently receiving medical attention at a military facility. 

He said, “The troops swiftly moved to Afaka and decisively engaged the armed bandits. Following the fire fight, troops were able to rescue 180 persons, comprising 132 male students, 40 female students and 8 civilian staff,” he said.

Gunmen, suspected to be bandits, stormed the Federal School of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Igabi LGA yesterday and abducted unspecified number of students.

But reacting to the development hours later, the Commissioner for internal security, Samuel Aruwan, said 180 persons, including students and staff, had been rescued while about 39 are still missing.

Northwest states have been under incessant attacks from bandits.Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has vowed he won’t enter into peace talks with bandits stressing that any bandit caught wll be killed.
