EDO: Govt bans forest reserves exploitation

THE government has banned all forms of forest exploitation in the state.

This directive was contained in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie, Esq.

Osagie noted that Governor Obaseki gave the directive as part of efforts to curb deforestation and protect the state’s forest assets.

The SSG stressed that offenders will be arrested and prosecuted in line with the Provisions of the Forestry Law.

He said, “It is hereby announced for the information of the General Public that all forms of forest exploitation in the State have been banned with immediate effect, until further notice.

“Consequently, movement of logs through land and rivers in the state is hereby prohibited.

“Law Enforcement Agencies are, by this announcement, directed to be at alert as offenders are to be arrested and prosecuted in line with the Provisions of the Forestry Law.”
