THE Nigerian Army reportedly recorded another feat two days when its troops at the Northeast part of the country killed 11 Boko Haram insurgents.
The incident was said to have happened during a gunfight in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
A member of the civilian Joint Task Force, Babagana Mustapha, said the terrorists were eliminated while attempting to attack the troops of 192 Battalion in Gwoza.
“The Tango 9 troops responded rapidly, by engaging the terrorists with a high volume of firepower and instantly neutralised some of them, while others were forced to retreat.
“We have counted at least 11 corpses of the insurgents after exploring the general area. With the aid of heavy firing and mortar bombs, troops engaged them at their mountainous den,” he said.
According to Mustapha, the troops recovered a dozen AK-47 rifles, anti-aircraft guns, motorcycles, as well as several other items from the insurgents.
The insurgents, according to the civilian JTF member had been harassing residents around the Mandara Mountains of Gwoza LGA.
“Although it has been long we had any confrontation with the insurgents, the incident of Sunday was commendable because our military fought with doggedness and commitment,” he added.
