THE main attraction at the Edo 2020 National Sports Festival on Monday was the 10-year-old gymnast who won three medals.
Representing Anambra State, Stephanie Onusiriuka competed with ladies much older than her in gymnastics but she was not intimidated.
She won two silver medals and one bronze.
The 10-year-old sensation won silver in the overall count, as well as a silver in the floor event and a bronze in the beam event.
In tennis also on Monday, Sarah Adegoke won women’s singles gold for Oyo State, overcoming Edo State’s Anu Aiyegbusi in the final. Aiyegbusi retired with injury in the final but still won the silver medal.
In some team sports medals won on Monday, Kaduna took home men’s hockey gold, while Kano won men’s handball gold.
Lagos won the silver medal in men’s handball, with Edo claiming bronze.
Medals tables leaders Delta State won gold in women’s handball, Edo won silver while Kaduna won bronze in the event.
