OYO: Traders count losses as fire ravages Bodija plank market

TRADERS at Bodija plank market in Ibadan watched helplessly last night as fire destroyed their wares.

It was gathered that property worth millions of were razed by the fire.

The Bodija plank market, also known as Iso Pako, is always a beehive of activities being one of the popular markets in the ancient city.

The Chief Fire Officer in Oyo State, Moshood Adewuyi has since confirmed the incident.

According to Adewuyi, a wing in the plank market was affected.

He, however, said that he could not quantify the worth of the property destroyed now.

“Yes. There was a fire incident at plank market in Bodija on Monday.

“I cannot quantify the worth now. I can’t say that this is the total number of shops affected. But, it is a wing in the market that was affected.

“Our men did not allow the whole wing to be destroyed before they quenched the fire. They did not allow it to spread,” he said.

This is the coming almost two weeks ago after property worth millions of naira were destroyed by fire at the spare parts market at Agodi-Gate in the same city.
