Man City sweep Palace aside, on verge of Premier League title

MANCHESTER City moved a step closer to regaining their Premier League title with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

Sergio Aguero and Ferran Torres scored the goals in a dominant second half as Pep Guardiola’s side eased to victory.

With the win, Manchester City will win their third Premier League title in five seasons if their neighbours and city rivals Manchester United lose to Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Despite making eight changes from the side that defeated Paris Saint-Germain in Paris in midweek, Manchester City still had too much quality for Crystal Palace.

The visitors dominated and created several chances in the first half, but none was taken and Palace went into the break grateful to be level.

Manchester City stepped up their game a notch in the second half and were duly rewarded with two goals that settled the contest.

First, Aguero struck in the 56th minute, receiving a pass and taking one touch before firing a powerful shot into the top corner.

It was 2-0 two minutes later as Torres finished off a smooth move to give Manchester City their 11th straight away win the Premier League, equalling the all-time English top-flight record for consecutive away wins.

City had more chances to increase their lead but Raheem Sterling, Torres and Aguero took turns to miss them.

The misses did not matter in the end, as the three points took the Citizens to the brink of regaining the Premier League title they last won in the 2018/2019 season.

Guardiola’s side are now 13 points clear of Manchester United who have only five games left and 15 points to play for.

If United lose to Liverpool on Sunday, City will be crowned champions with four games to spare.
