Troost-Ekong expects tough game against revenge-seeking Cameroon

WILLIAM Troost-Ekong expects Cameroon to be gunning for revenge when they face Nigeria in a friendly in Vienna, Austria on Friday.

The Super Eagles have won five of their last six encounters against the Indomitable Lions, with the other one ending in a draw, and Nigeria vice-captain Troost-Ekong believes the Cameroonians will be keen to end the run.

“It’s going to be a difficult game,” Troost-Ekong told the Super Eagles media team on Thursday.

“I think we played them a lot in the last couple of years and they’ve always been a difficult opponent.

“They would be a team that wants to get revenge against us because we knocked them out of the 2018 World Cup (in the qualifiers) and at the (2019) AFCON we did the same thing.”

However, the Watford defender is confident his side will give as good as they get despite missing several key players to late-season injuries.

“It’s going to be a difficult game and the boys are ready to have a good fight and enjoy the game, show ourselves, see what we can do and make sure we finish the season on a high,” he added.

The Super Eagles are owed some entitlements by the Nigeria Football Federation but Troost-Ekong insists the spirit in camp is good.

The centre-back, who will play in the Premier League with Watford next season, said: ”It has been good we’ve got a lot of new faces in camp and we hope to have a good game.

“It’s good to see we have a great team spirit so we are happy to be here.”

The Super Eagles will play Cameroon in Vienna again on Tuesday after Friday’s fixture.
