THE six students and two staff members of Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic in Zaria, who were kidnapped by bandits, have been released.

The Public Relations Officer of the Polytechnic, Abdullahi Shehu, said they were released last night at an undisclosed location.

Shehu said the kidnapped students and staff members regained their freedom after their parents and relatives negotiated with the bandits.

Samuel Aruwan, the state commissioner for internal security and home affairs, said that two students — Ahmad Muhammad and Haruna Duniya — were hit and both sustained gunshot injuries.

Aruwan had said the wounded students were taken to hospital for medical attention, but “sadly, Ahmad Muhammad succumbed to his wounds and died.”

Recall that sometime in June, gunmen invaded the Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic and abducted some students and lecturers.

At least one person was shot, as the kidnappers shot sporadically to scare their victims.
