MANCHESTER United have announced that they have agreed with Real Madrid to buy Raphael Varane.
There were reports in various outlets across Europe on Monday that the France defender was bound for Old Trafford, and United have now confirmed the deal.
“Manchester United is delighted to announce the club has reached agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of French international defender and World Cup winner, Raphaël Varane, subject to a medical and to player terms being finalised,” the English club wrote in a short statement on their official website on Tuesday.
The deal is believed to be worth around £43m, with Varane expected to pen a four-year deal with an option for another year.
The 28-year-old is coming to Manchester United 10 years after the club spotted him, but he chose to go to Real Madrid from Lens at the time.
In 10 years at Real Madrid, centre-back Varane made 360 appearances, scoring 17 goals and making seven assists.
He had a successful time with the Spanish giants, winning four UEFA Champions League titles, three LaLiga trophies and four FIFA Club World Cups.
He has 79 senior France caps and won the World Cup with Les Bleus in 2018.
