SUPER Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho has refused to give himself a target in terms of goals in the new campaign.
The Nigeria international is expected to be in action for Leicester City on Saturday when they open the English season with the Community Shield clash with Manchester City.
Iheanacho, who was Leicester City’s top scorer last season as they won their first-ever FA Cup and finished fifth in the Premier League, explained why he would not give himself a number of goals to aim at.
“Personally, I don’t really set targets,” he told the club’s matchday magazine.
“Of course you want to strive for the best, but I don’t set targets. I like to take things as they come. You never know what’s going to happen from game to game.
“If I was to set targets and they weren’t to be achieved, I don’t know how that would alter my mentality.”
Iheanacho said hewasas pleased to have the chance to play in front of fans at the King Power Stadium for the new season after 18 months of playing before empty stands due to Covid-19 measures.
“It will be hugely different,” he added.
“Playing for so long without fans makes you realise just how important they are. “Here’s an example: when the gaffer or the coaches shout when you’re on the ball and you have a player on you, you can kind of hear them.
“But when home fans are in the ground and you hear the roar of ‘man on’ or something, they have an impact on your awareness.
“It’s things like that which have been missed by every team – and that will be back this season. We can’t wait to have them back in the stadium.”
Iheanacho, 24, scored 19 goals and made seven assists across all competitions last season in the most prolific campaign in of his young career.
